1You tell us the door, and the figure is settled from the published list before the van turns its key.
2Before the van leaves, a text tells you who is coming and roughly when.
3The receipt shows the figure that was read back to you. Nothing is added at the door.

Bike keys go missing in the downtown garages, in the lot by the marina, on the racks at Sequoia Station and in apartment carports along Middlefield Rd. Sequoia Lock & Key cuts keys for Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Harley-Davidson, Triumph, BMW, Ducati, KTM, Vespa and most scooters, at the bike, from the ignition or a lock code. No trailer, and no waiting on a dealer's parts counter.

Paperwork comes first, because a motorcycle is the easiest vehicle in the world to wheel away: ID against the registration or the title, before any lock is read. Then the ignition or the seat lock is decoded. Most bikes leave the factory keyed alike, so one correct blade should work the ignition, the fuel cap, the seat and the helmet lock, and each of those is tried rather than assumed. Bikes with an immobilizer, whether Honda's HISS, BMW's EWS, the Ducati red-key arrangement or the newer keyless systems, need the chip enrolled with the bike's module, which is done at the curb. The fork lock is turned several times before the van leaves, since it is the lock most likely to bind on a key cut a fraction shallow.

Motorcycle keys run $115 to $275. A plain mechanical key for an older Honda or a scooter is $115. Transponder keys, and immobilizer bikes where no key exists and the module has to be read, reach $275. The $89 service call is inside that figure. An ignition lock damaged past reading, which is what a failed theft attempt leaves behind, is quoted as its own line before any work starts. Weekends carry no premium; only the $50 evening and $85 overnight figures apply.

Tell us the bike: make, model and year, whether it has an immobilizer, and whether any key still exists. Hear the figure read back on that call. Watch it cut: ownership, the cut, programming where it is needed, and a test of the ignition, the fuel cap, the seat, the helmet lock and the fork lock. Pay what was read, card or tap at the bike, receipt by email.

Our 1926 house has the original mortise lock and I managed to shut the door with the only working key on the kitchen table. The call gave me $139 and a text with a name arrived while I was still standing on the porch. The technician had the door open in a few minutes with the brass untouched, then showed me how the old key was worn and why it had started sticking. $139 on the card, receipt in my email before he reached the van.

FAQ

Motorcycle Keys: quick answers

Harley with no key at all, in the Marshall garage.+

Routine. On most Harleys the ignition switch or the fork lock gives up its code at the bike, and a key is cut to that code on the tailgate of the van. Bikes with the fob-based security system also need the fob paired or the PIN entered, which is done while you stand beside the bike. Put the level and the bay number in the Marshall garage in your call, and have the registration with you.

A Vespa in a Centennial carport, and an electric scooter downtown. Do you cut for both?+

A gas scooter is treated as a small motorcycle, and most carry simple locks that read in minutes. Some have a shuttered ignition that needs a separate magnetic key; mention it on the call, because the shutter key is its own item. An electric scooter with an app-only lock is another trade, and you would be told so on the call rather than after a visit.

My bike was attacked in a downtown garage and the ignition is chewed up. The key will not even go in.+

A punched or twisted ignition usually has broken tumblers inside and cannot be read. The lock is removed, and either the cylinder is rebuilt to your existing key or a replacement goes in keyed to match the seat and the fuel cap. That figure is named before any panel comes off.
