Access Control in Redwood City by Sequoia Lock & Key
1You tell us the door, and the figure is settled from the published list before the van turns its key.
2Before the van leaves, a text tells you who is coming and roughly when.
3The receipt shows the figure that was read back to you. Nothing is added at the door.

Access control replaces a key you cannot take back with a credential you can switch off from a laptop. A badge reader on the suite door of a firm on Seaport Blvd. A keypad on the staff door of a restaurant on Broadway. A reader and an audit trail on a records-room door at a clinic, because the auditor asked who went in and when. Phone credentials on the lobby of a Redwood Shores condo building whose buzzer panel has been rewired twice. Sequoia Lock & Key fits everything from a single keypad to networked readers with logging.

There is no standard door, so there is no standard answer. The survey records the hardware on each opening, what the frame is made of, and where the nearest power or PoE drop sits. From that comes a recommendation per door: an electric strike if the frame is deep enough to take one, a magnetic lock at the head of a glass-and-aluminum door that is not, a controller with room for the doors you have plus two spare positions, and a credential people will actually carry rather than leave in a desk. Readers, strikes, exit sensors and cabling go in together with the software. The first users are enrolled with you watching, and you leave with an administrator login in your own name. At least one door keeps a mechanical override, because a building with no key anywhere is one power cut from a lockout.

Access control is quoted per project, since door count, controller, credential type and the condition of each existing door are what set the number. The written quote shows every door with its hardware, the controller, the credentials and the labor as separate lines, so nothing hides inside a bundle. The $89 service call pays for the survey and is credited to the job. Once approved, the figure holds. A door that turns out to need new preparation is priced and approved before work goes on, not found on the invoice afterward.

Tell us the doors: the count and the kind of building. Hear the figure read back in writing after the walk-through, with installation scheduled on approval. Watch it fitted: each door tested with a credential from outside and against the exit sensor from inside, and a handover that walks you through adding, removing and scheduling users. Pay what was read, card or tap, with a receipt itemized door by door.

Our 1926 house has the original mortise lock and I managed to shut the door with the only working key on the kitchen table. The call gave me $139 and a text with a name arrived while I was still standing on the porch. The technician had the door open in a few minutes with the brass untouched, then showed me how the old key was worn and why it had started sticking. $139 on the card, receipt in my email before he reached the van.

FAQ

Access Control: quick answers

Our suite is inside a Seaport Blvd building with its own lobby badges. Can our doors run separately?+

Yes. Your suite doors go on their own controller. If the building office is willing to enroll your staff, one badge does both jobs; if not, people carry two, which is common and causes no trouble. The technician speaks to the building office about your suite door only and leaves their system alone.

Our HOA wants to replace the lobby buzzer with phone entry.+

A cellular or IP intercom with a reader at the lobby door does that: residents open for guests from a phone, and the board sees a log. Unit doors stay mechanical unless you decide otherwise. The quote separates the lobby from the garage gate so the board can approve them one at a time.

Our Seaport Blvd lobby is an all-glass door in an aluminum frame. What holds it shut electrically?+

At the top of the frame, as a magnetic lock, because a slim aluminum stile has no room for a strike. An exit sensor above the door and a push-to-exit button beside it handle the way out. The deadlatch already in the stile keeps locking the door mechanically after hours.
