Safe Opening in Redwood City by Sequoia Lock & Key
1You tell us the door, and the figure is settled from the published list before the van turns its key.
2Before the van leaves, a text tells you who is coming and roughly when.
3The receipt shows the figure that was read back to you. Nothing is added at the door.

Safes lose their combinations in a small number of ways. A firm vacates a suite on Seaport Blvd and the fireproof safe under the desk goes with the lease and without the code. A house in Emerald Hills passes to the next generation with a floor safe in the closet and no note anywhere. A gun safe keypad dies on a Sunday. A jewelry safe in a Mount Carmel bedroom was last set in 1970. Sequoia Lock & Key opens safes by manipulation, by decoding, or by a drill placed where the maker intends it, and then repairs what was drilled.

Order matters, and the quietest method is tried first because it is also the least expensive. A keypad that has gone dead is more often a battery contact or the ribbon cable between the pad and the lock than a failed lock, and either is put right in a few minutes. A mechanical dial is worked by feel across the wheel pack, or read with a decoding instrument made for the purpose. The drill comes out only after those have been exhausted, and it goes to the point the manufacturer specifies for that model, which lets the bit reach the lock while missing the glass relocker. Afterward the hole takes a hardened plug, and the lock is reset or exchanged, so the safe goes back to work rather than to the scrapyard. Ownership is settled before the first step.

Safe work runs $179 to $505. A dead keypad or a simple electronic lockout is the $179 end. Manipulating a mid-size mechanical dial sits in the middle. Drilling and properly repairing a high-security lock or a heavy gun safe reaches $505. The $89 service call is inside the figure. Safes differ enough that a range is read back on the call and the exact figure is confirmed with the safe in front of the technician and before any tool is applied to it; from there it does not move.

Tell us the safe: make, rough size, dial or keypad, bolted down or free-standing. Hear the range read back on the call, and the figure at the safe. Watch it opened: ownership, diagnosis, the opening, a new combination you enter yourself, fresh batteries where they apply, and several test closings with the door swung shut. Pay what was read, card or tap, receipt by email.

A floor safe in the house we bought near Santa Cruz Ave, no combination, no paperwork. Quoted $440 on the call and opened by manipulation in a little over an hour without cutting. He then recommended replacing the old lock body with a new dial, which was fair advice but a separate figure of its own, and I would have preferred to hear that possibility on the call. The safe is open and the total for the opening was exactly $440.

FAQ

Safe Opening: quick answers

The safe came with the office lease on Seaport Blvd. What proof do you need?+

The lease that names your company for that suite, and photo ID for an officer or manager who is present when it opens. A safe in a house you bought is covered by the closing papers. An inherited safe needs a letter from the executor.

Our Emerald Hills floor safe may need drilling. Does that ruin it?+

No. Drilled at the correct point, the safe loses nothing but a small hole, which is filled with a hardened plug that resists a bit as well as the original plate. A new lock goes in and the safe is as serviceable as before. The exception is a cheap safe that was never much of a safe, and you would be told that beforehand.

The gun safe keypad accepts the code and chirps, but the handle will not turn.+

The code is fine; the solenoid or the bolt work has failed. On most models that is bypassed rather than drilled, the lock body is exchanged with the door open, and the new code is one you set yourself.
